Man first off i always read reviews before i trust a purchase so let me start by saying if it wasnt for the few reviews i would of never made a purchase.
With that put the way
Let me just say for the price point on these headers they were the best built budget header i could find..
That being said there wasnt any instructions so i wanted to leave a few words for anyone installing.
If your debating the purchase you wont be disapointed for the price..
The 02 bung on driver side shluld have been facing the trans at 3 o'clock position but no big deal there.
Just make sure you notch for your o2 fitment on driver side it may hit the cab due to 12 o'clock position
I always wonder how the install goes when purchasing budget minded products so i figured id give a detailed install process..
If you start on passenger side
Disconect battery first
Due to dipstick tube being so close to starter and may arc
Remove oil dipstick first
Unbolt old exh manifold or existing
Remove completely.
Preferably from bottom
Switch out your o2 sensors
Its best to opt for the mls exhaust gaskests and new bolts its def worth it
Go in from bottom side passenger when Installing and its almost 100 percent hassle free
Make sure to reinstall oil dipstick
During bolt up
Drive side is a bit of a hassle due to wiring harness coolant temp sensor
And steering rod
Disconnect steering rod its a slip fit
Just mark it with paint marker before seperation so if anything rotates you will be able to clock it correctly
Watch out for the coolant temp sens during removal of old and install of new
Once you handle the steering rod
U may have to wrestle a little bit to get new header in from top or bottom
Side not it is easier on driver side if you remove the coil bracket
And spark plugs its a little more time to do here but will save time after the header is in place
Top is a little easier if you clear what you can and work it around wiring harness as long as you ve disconnected steering rod
Check clearance for o2 sensor before tightning all bolts
Trim to fit if needed
If theres no need to trim
Tighten driver side header all the way then bolt up steering arm
Note you will have to trim the bolt and the arm that keeps the bolt from spining once you have reconnected it
It will hit the header by just a few hairs youll
Once everything is tight and youve connected the steering arm
Turn the wheel a few times to make sure theres no drag
Youll be able to feel it
The rest is self explanatory
Replace or build exhaust
After doubling over all work
To the Guys at speed engineering
Great product for a good price
The sound from 1" 7/8 headers is amazing
Runnin open headers for now waiting on 3" stainless exhaust to get here to complete install but can feel the hp difference and havent had the truck tuned yet either tho i have alot more then just exhaust so this may not apply to guys just doing headers only
Purchased these for my 2004 crew cab shorted 3/4 ton 6.0L. Watched many reviews and installs online and did my homework. Opening the box and getting hands on em I was very satisfied with the craftsmanship of all the welds. I checked the collector area with a flashlight just to double check for leaks or pin holes and found none. I also purchased the hardwarekit, gasket kit, wires and boots. For installation you do need to or it is recommended to cut the one ear tab off the passenger side of the stransmission. This does no harm to the Trans or mess with performance. The headers sound amazing with the system I went with and they just look killer once you get a few heat cycles on them. My system configuration is the long tube header to 3" pipe off each collector back to 2 side by side stacked 40 series 2 chamber flowmasters out to two 4" stainless tips stacked up tight on the passenger side dumped just over the rear axle . true duals, no cats rear 02 censor deleted and ecm tuned and for fun a mild idle chop setting. Truck sounds absolutely ridiculously amazing just how it should. Turns heads wherever you go. Super pleased with the product and if anybody ever ask whats under my hood I'll send em your way. Thanks again super happy with the product and outcome.
Installed on my 2002 Sierra and they fit perfectly without any hassle. Haven't installed a proper exhaust yet so I'm currently running open headers and it still sound amazing besides the drone in the cab but would recommend to anyone looking for a budget friendly pair of headers.
I installed these on my 2003 1500 HD, and for the price of the package, it was well worth it. beautiful construction, seamless fit, easy to install, and perfect in every way. I changed the gaskets I used and went with the MLS exhaust manifold gaskets that are used with the OEM manifolds to reduce the risk of leaks later on, and also bolted them on with the ARP stainless bolt kit, well worth adding them both for the install. I also opted to get the Speed Engineering Spark Plug wires as well, and I would recommend that over using the stock plug wires, they give you a decent amount of distance and no not require the heat shield between the primary tube and the wire end, just enough room to keep them from melting. All around, extremely happy and love how they make my LQ4 sound, highly recommend!
Perfect fit. Highly recommend easy installion. I would buy again.
